CERN celebrates LGBTQ+ in STEM Day
18 November marks LGBTQ+ in STEM Day, which celebrates and highlights the work of and barriers facing LGBTQIA+ people in science, technology, engineering and maths. Alongside raising the Progress Pride flag on the Esplanade des Particules for the third year running, the CERN LGBTQ+ informal network organised a special programme of talks and performances at IdeaSquare.
Established in 2019, LGBTQ+ in STEM Day is celebrated every year by organisations around the world to recognise the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to scientific discoveries throughout history.
“LGBTQ+ in STEM Day is an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the role that our community plays in science, by sharing the science we love and taking the time to simply have fun,” said Steffi Bower, co-chair of the CERN LGBTQ+ informal network. “We remember our history and look towards our future, reminding the world that we are here, we are proud and we have so much to offer.”
